How to measure your pond size

It is important to get the exact dimensions of the hole dug for your garden pond.

This will help reduce your pond liner wastage or finding that you have not bought enough pond liner **.

Measuring the dimensions of a pond is a straightforward provided you use the following steps

1    Measure the longest length of the pond- in metres and cm,
2    Measure the widest width in meters and cm,  
3    Take measurement for the deepest depth in meters and cm,
4    Now, add one side (Length or Width) to two times the depth plus amount needed for the overlap. 

It is two times the depth of the pond because the pond liner and protective pond underlay needs to go down one side of the pond and back up the other side.

 
5    Once you have one side (Length or Width), you then need to do the other. 

Therefore your calculation should be as follows:-

Max. Length + (2 x Depth) + 60cm (30cm overlap on each side) = Total Length of Liner
Max. Width + (2 x Depth) + 60cm (30cm overlap on each side) = Total Width of Liner

Once you have calculated the size of liner required you can compare this to the nearest available size liner from our list
